A paradise in tropical Domburg
Erik and Neeta's tropical garden is packed with vitamins and special animals
During this Corona period, we have been spending a lot of time in the garden of Guesthouse Little Paradise . The guesthouse is situated on a 10.000 m² plot of land. Guests who enjoy gardening are always welcome to help out. For some guests, this provides great satisfaction, and you also learn more about the tropical flora and fauna.
Podosiri or acai berry
In the photos we are harvesting Podosiri from the Presara palm. The berries are used to make a drink that is packed with vitamin A. Vitamin A (retinol), a fat-soluble vitamin, has an immune-boosting effect. It is therefore also called the anti-infection vitamin. It also plays a role in growth, vision and the health of the skin and gums.
In the Netherlands, this fruit is also known as the açai berry . You are welcome to visit Erik and Neeta in Domburg again soon, and then you can taste this drink for yourself!
Coconuts
Four different types of coconut grow in our garden. These are the smaller types and contain delicious thirst-quenching coconut water.
Sloths in the garden
A few weeks ago, local youths captured a sloth and its young. It was most likely an animal that regularly visited the garden of Little Paradise. The youths were mistreating the mother and chopping off her claws with a machete. Fortunately, a bystander was able to stop the youths and rescue the animals. The animals have since been taken to Monique Pool's sloth sanctuary and are doing well considering the circumstances. Unfortunately, it takes at least a year for the claws to grow back.
Sloths regularly come to Erik and Neeta's garden to take a look or eat the leaves of the forest papaya tree.
