Suzette,
After our first very pleasant conversation, in which I briefly outlined our wishes—two weeks in Suriname to show our grandsons their grandmother's birthplace and one week in the country where their grandfather spent the first 10 years of his life—you came up with a proposal that ultimately resulted in a trip that everyone will likely remember for a long time.
Nickerie
Our family of six stayed for two weeks at Eco Torarica, from where we went on various fun excursions. On Tuesday, we had an informative and enjoyable city tour of Paramaribo, with the central market as the highlight. On Wednesday, we visited Commewijne, including Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, the Rust&Werk plantation, and dolphin spotting on the river. On Thursday, our rest day, we went swimming in Colakreek.
Next, on Friday, we drove the rented Toyota van to Nieuw Nickerie, my wife's birthplace, where we were able to find, among other things, the house where she grew up, her primary school, and the Mulo school, which was quite emotional for her.
In addition, the 'Awad Hoesein' street, named after her father, and the 'Doekhie' street, named after an uncle and aunt of hers, are on the program.
The weekend was time for a family visit, and on our last day we went on an excursion on the Nickerie River and spotted many birds, as well as a sloth and various monkeys.
Trips from Paramaribo
On Tuesday we drive back to Paramaribo where we will spend the rest of the week again in the Eco Torarica stay and resume our excursion program on Wednesday with a visit to Jodensavanne and the Indian village of Redi Doti. On Friday cycling to Peperpot plantation and through the nature park where we saw monkeys alongside birds and iguanas, and as the icing on the cake, a visit to the Maroon village on Saturday. Drepada where, in addition to a workshop at Talking Prints, we met the local medicine man and the boys fished in the river. Admittedly a busy program, but you had also built in sufficient moments of rest.
Dushi Curacao
After a quiet Sunday, we fly to dushi Curaçao on Monday morning. You have a for us there amazing apartment Booked with 3 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and we can walk straight from the terrace onto the beach to dive into the sea.
We are completely unwinding here after Suriname and returning home on Sunday after an unforgettable vacation that was prepared and executed down to the last detail by you and your staff, for which we thank you.
Should Suriname feature in our travel plans again, we will certainly use Suriname Holidays and your expertise again.
Greetings,
Blonk Family
