Open Monument Day Paramaribo 2019
This year, my visit coincided with Open Monument Day in Paramaribo. On Sunday, November 17, the Association of Friends of Stadsherstel Suriname organized the annual event. It was a pleasant and interesting morning featuring lectures by Stadsherstel Suriname and Ms. Cynthia McLeod regarding the Elisabeth Samson House Foundation project . My long-cherished wish to admire the Corner House on the Waterkant from the inside also came true on this day. This stately building is owned by Suralco and can only be visited on Open Monument Day. During Open Monument Day in Paramaribo, efforts are made to raise awareness among the local population about the importance of preserving historical heritage in Suriname. We wholeheartedly support these initiatives and therefore donate annually to the Surinamese Heritage Thematic Fund of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund.
From November 9 to 24 I was in Suriname for two weeks. The purpose of my working visit, in addition to maintaining our local contacts, is to visit new locations and accommodations.
