Day to day program
In the morning, you will be picked up by the guide for the trip towards the west. During a short stop in Saramacca (Groningen) to stretch your legs, the guide will tell you more about the history of Groningen and the surrounding area. Afterwards, the journey continues through the vast landscapes and polders that characterize this part of Suriname. After crossing the Coppenamer River, you are welcomed by the sign for Coronie: peaceful, free, and friendly. Finally, you arrive in Totness, our base for the next two days. After an extensive lunch, you will explore the Zeedijk and various special places in the area together with your guide. You will stop at monuments, look out over the expansive coastline, and experience the peace and space that are so characteristic of this district. You will spend the evening at the house in Totness where you will stay overnight.
Your day starts relaxed with breakfast at the accommodation where you spent the night. The rest of the morning is dedicated to the Classic Coronie experience. Together with expert local guides, you will immerse yourself in the nature, culture, and craftsmanship for which Coronie is so well known. You will discover how centuries-old traditions surrounding honey and coconut are still proudly continued here.
You will be taken to an atmospheric herb and flower garden. Here, you will learn how local plants are used for food, fragrance, and medicinal purposes—knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Next, you will meet a local beekeeper who will give you a glimpse into the craft of honey production. You will see how the bees are cared for, how the honey is harvested, and the role this product plays in the lives of the people of Coronie. You will also visit a traditional coconut oil processor where you can experience the oil production process. Naturally, you can purchase products so that you can continue to enjoy the pure flavors of Coronie at home for a long time to come.
After all the experiences, it is time to return to Paramaribo.
If desired, you can also continue the journey west towards Nickerie and/or Bigi Pan. Ask about the possibilities.
