Voltzberg and Raleigh Falls
On to the next highlight (literally and figuratively) namely the Voltzberg and Raleigh Falls. In a 4WD van we drive about four hours via Zanderij to Witagron, where we transfer to the boat for a 3-hour boat trip to Fungu Island. The coming days will mainly focus on nature. From Witagron you pass Kaaimanston, but after that there is nothing more and you find yourself in a nature reserve. No telephone reception, let alone WiFi. The sound of toucans, macaws and howler monkeys, among others.
The accommodation is simple in jungle style. There is a hammock area that is large enough to accommodate groups separately on several floors. In addition, in a separate accommodation; a group accommodation with bunk beds and mosquito nets and a building where 2, 3 and 4-person rooms have beds/mosquito nets and private shower/toilet. After entering with your key, it is quite funny to discover that the other side of the room has no wall. You look directly outside from your bed. Even though the accommodation is far from luxurious, it is adequate and fits in a place like this.
Our guide prepares us for the long walk to the Voltzberg. Long pants because of the wood ants, good walking socks/shoes, a poncho; 2 large bottles of water and plenty of food. Don't go to sleep too late, it's going to be a long day tomorrow!
