The tour Unbeaten paths of Suriname takes you to places that many have never heard of or been to before.
Immediately upon arrival in Suriname, you'll unwind in Boxel, a village about a half-hour drive from the capital. You'll stay in a small guesthouse nestled in a peaceful, wooded setting directly on the Para Creek. From your lounge chair on the terrace, you can acclimate to the tropical temperatures. A refreshing dip in the pool will provide the necessary refreshment.
Your next stay – in Paramaribo – will be comfortable and homely. You'll enjoy a guided tour of the city's historic center.
Then you cycle for a few days on your own through the Commewijne district. You determine your own pace and route and have a chat with the residents of this former plantation district along the way while you cross the river by boat or buy something to eat or drink somewhere along the road.
After exploring the Commewijne district, you'll spend a few days in uninhabited areas on the Maratakka tour. Enjoy the intense tranquility and beauty of the jungle in this area. With no mobile phone reception at this location, you're guaranteed to return to civilization feeling rejuvenated.
Then you will be introduced to the Maroons and their authentic culture in the Upper Suriname area.
Your stay ends in an oasis of greenery and tranquility near the airport.

Travel schedule
Day 1 - Arrival in Suriname
Arrive at Paramaribo International Airport, JA Pengel Airport. You will be met there and transferred by private van to your first overnight stay in Boxel, approximately a one-hour drive from the airport.
You'll spend your first two nights at Guesthouse La Ressource in a studio/apartment. Owners Bertus and Jenny will warmly welcome you to their small-scale accommodation.
Day 2 - Free day in Boxel
Time to get used to the Surinamese temperatures. La Ressource has a swimming pool where you can acclimatize wonderfully. You can visit one of the nearby markets. There are also several supermarkets and restaurants nearby. If you prefer to eat at home, you can use the outdoor kitchen.
Day 3 and 4 - Paramaribo
In the morning you will be picked up and taken to guesthouse Villa Famiri in Paramaribo. After you have put your luggage in your room, you will go with the guide to the center of Paramaribo for a tour of various characteristic buildings and sights, such as the Surinamese Museum, the cozy waterfront, the colorful market and the wooden cathedral. You can spend the rest of the day yourself. In the evening you can have a nice meal in the city. The next day is also free to spend. You can also decide to take it easy. Villa Famiri is a great place to be. There is a small swimming pool where you can relax and cool off if necessary.
Day 5 to 7 - Cycling tour Commewijne
After breakfast, you'll pick up your rental bikes and pack the luggage you'll need for the next three days into your panniers. With a good map, you'll hop on your bikes and head to the Commewijne district. You'll plan your day yourself, deciding how fast you cycle and when to stop to explore, take photos, or have something to eat or drink. You'll cross the river twice by small boat and arrive in Marienbosch later in the day.
Marienbosch Plantation is an authentic plantation home. You'll spend the night here in a simple room. The next day, you'll take a guided boat trip through the swamp to the sea turtle nesting beaches and a dolphin-watching boat trip. The boat trip to the nesting beaches only operates between February 15th and July 15th. After the nesting season, it becomes a swamp and caiman boat trip.
On the last day, after breakfast you will get back on your bike towards Paramaribo to Villa Famiri.
Day 8 to 10 - 3 districts tour Maratakka
In the morning, you will be picked up by our driver. You will travel by minivan through the Saramacca and Coronie districts to Wageningen, where you will take a boat to the jungle camp. In Wageningen, you will board the boat and sail to the jungle camp. You will literally be in the jungle. the middle of nowhere, so there's a good chance of encountering plenty of wildlife. This area is known for giant otters and a wide variety of birdlife. At the camp, you'll be well looked after and enjoy delicious food. Your host is a wealth of knowledge and will share it with you during forest walks and boat trips.
At Maratakka you will experience unprecedented tranquility and in the evening you will enjoy a radiant starry sky.
On the last day, after a long drive, you'll be dropped off back in the city at Villa Famiri. This is your last evening in the city, as you won't be returning to Paramaribo after this. A great opportunity to enjoy a delicious dinner!
Day 11 to 13 - Upper Suriname / Jaw Jaw A Tela
A minibus will take you to Atjoni, where a dugout canoe awaits for the journey to Jaw Jaw. At the Jaw Jaw A Tela camp, you'll spend the night in simple, authentic wooden huts. This way, you'll fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Upper Suriname region.
You'll get to know the village of Jaw Jaw better and are welcome to visit the school and the medical center. There's plenty of time for swimming in the rapids, fishing, and various sports activities with the village children. To get to know the Maroon population and their culture even better, you can help with daily village activities, such as pounding rice, grating cassava, or baking bread. Activities can be arranged in consultation. This is a unique opportunity to experience this centuries-old culture and its traditions firsthand.
On the last day you will be dropped off at Palulu Paradise.
Day 14 - Palulu Paradise
You will end your stay in Suriname at a beautiful place: Palulu Paradise. This place really lives up to its name. After your stay in the Upper Suriname area, you will completely relax here. Nothing is required, everything is allowed. This ensures that you are completely relaxed and rested on the last day for your return trip to the Netherlands.
You will spend the night in the comfortable Vijver Lodge, equipped with a fully equipped kitchen, bar with chairs and armchair and sofa. The front of the terrace borders the pond. Palulu Paradise has a lovely creek with refreshing, running water where you can relax.
Day 15 - Departure
On the last day you will be taken to the airport, which is a fifteen-minute drive from Palulu.

- La Ressource: (very) spacious studio with air conditioning, private shower/toilet, sitting area and kitchenette.
- Villa Famiri: Double room with air conditioning and private shower/toilet. Breakfast included.
- Marienbosch: simple room with fan and shared shower/toilet (cold water). Full board.
- MaratakkaDormitory with a choice of hammock, bed, or camp bed, equipped with mosquito nets. Very basic shared shower (cold river water) and toilet. Full board includes tea, coffee, water, and lemonade.
- Jaw Jaw A Tela: authentic, simple wooden hut with thatched roof, beds and mosquito nets, very simple (shared) sanitary facilities (toilet and mandi, cold water). Full board incl. tea, coffee, water, lemonade syrup.
- Palulu Paradise: Pond lodge equipped with a kitchen, bar with chairs and armchair and sofa. At the rear toilet with sink and shower (cold water). The two bedrooms on the upper floor are each equipped with a double bed and a bunk bed. These rooms can also be rented per room. When both rooms are rented, the sanitary facilities are shared with the other guests.

The connecting flight from Paramaribo to Curacao can also be booked for you. These flights are usually operated by Surinam Airways, which is the best available option at the moment.

Most tours are designed based on a specific departure day. If you arrive on a different day, it is possible to adjust the order of the program so that it fits in with your flight schedule.
