Explore the Surinamese jungle, districts and plantations by canoe, get to know the Maroon culture and end this experience with tropical beaches.

Travel information
For those looking for a combination of beach and jungle, this is a perfect combination. During your stay in Suriname you will get a good idea of Surinamese history, both in the city and in the plantation area. The colonial times and the shared past of Suriname and the Netherlands come to life when you explore the Commewijne area by bike. In the Saramacca district you can immerse yourself in local life.
During your stay inland you will become acquainted with the breathtaking jungle and the culture of the Maroon population. The Maroons are descendants of the slaves from Africa who fled and settled in the forest. They still live according to age-old traditions together with nature, which you will be part of for a few days. This is definitely an adventurous trip because you will also spend two nights in a hammock in a bush camp on the river.
You then fly to Curaçao. From an attractive apartment complex you can explore the island on your own or spend a few days on the beach snorkeling or diving. You have your own car at your disposal these days. Everything is possible here, but nothing is necessary, it's up to you!

Day 1 - Arrival in Suriname | Paramaribo
Day 2 - Paramaribo | cooking workshop
Today's program includes a cooking workshop. This workshop will give you a comprehensive introduction to Surinamese cuisine. First, you'll visit the colorful market where you'll shop for the dish you'll prepare with Aunt Elfriede. Quite an experience! Then, you'll dive into the kitchen with her and, under her guidance, prepare the dish. Afterwards, you'll enjoy the meal together. After an enjoyable and delicious afternoon, it's time to return to the hotel.
Days 3 to 8 - Upper Suriname and Sintia Dam
Today begins your adventurous tour through the jungle of the Upper Suriname region and the Sintia Dam. This area is inhabited by the Maroons, who still live according to ancient traditions. In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and travel by bus to Atjoni, where you will transfer to a dugout canoe. After a scenic boat trip through the jungle, you will arrive in Kumalu or Pingpe in the late afternoon. You will spend the night in simple huts along the river.
The next day, the journey continues by dugout canoe to the Kosindo River Lodge, where you'll arrive in the evening. Along the way, you'll pass impressive rapids such as the Tapawatra and the Gran Dam. Here, too, you'll spend the night in simple huts.
On the third day, after breakfast, you'll board the dugout canoe and leave civilization behind. During the four-hour journey, the scenery becomes increasingly spectacular. The canoe will occasionally be pulled through impressive rapids. Because this area is relatively uninhabited, there's a good chance of spotting animals along the river. Upon arrival at the Sintia Dam, a jungle camp with hammocks and mosquito nets will be set up. There are no other facilities. Your first evening and night in the jungle will be an unforgettable experience. The bush meal, prepared authentically by the guide, somehow tastes even better.
The next day, you'll climb Turtle Mountain. In clear weather, you'll have views across the entire jungle and see the peaks of Kasikasima, Duivelsei, and Rosevelt Peak, among others. Cock-of-the-Rocks are regularly spotted along the way. These rare birds have a permanent roost here, and the guide knows their location. The hike to the summit takes about 2,5 hours. Towards the end of the day, you'll return to camp at Sintia Dam. If the opportunity arises, a campfire will be built, and you're sure to share some great campfire stories while enjoying a drink.
After three nights in a hammock, we break camp at Sintia Dam and sail back downstream to Kumalu or Pingpe in the morning, where you will spend the night.
The last day of your jungle adventure has arrived. You'll take one last canoe trip on the Upper Suriname River and then travel by bus to Palulu, arriving in the afternoon.
Day 9 and 10 - Palulu
Palulu is located in the stunning savanna region, less than 10 minutes from the airport. A beautiful jungle setting and a refreshing creek are the key ingredients of this unique spot. Today you can take a lovely forest walk through this pristine area, or simply relax by the creek.
Day 11 to 15 - Curaçao
Early transfer to the airport for your flight to Curaçao with Surinam Airways. Upon arrival, you can pick up the rental car we've reserved for you and drive to Boca St. Michiel, about 10-15 minutes from the airport. You'll spend five nights in the small, charming Waterside Apartments Curaçao. The complex offers direct access to a local beach. The fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare your own meals. You also have access to a private barbecue. A modern supermarket is just around the corner.
If you're looking for a bit of hustle and bustle, Willemstad is just a short drive away. The beautiful beaches towards Westpunt are also within a half-hour drive. If you'd rather stay nearby, the luxurious beach at Blauw Baai is a wonderful spot less than 10 minutes away.
