Away from the hustle and bustle towards Westpunt
Klein St. Michiel is a perfect base for all the beautiful, quiet bays towards Westpunt. The largest flamingo colony on the island can be admired less than 5 minutes away at Bullenbaai. Some beaches offer sunbeds and parasols for a small fee, other beaches charge an entrance fee and an additional fee for a sunbed. There is often also an opportunity to eat and drink something. Our favorite drinks on Curaçao are the smoothies, which are prepared with fresh fruit in the mobile 'snack carts'. They can be found, among others, at the Grote Knip and the beach of Lagun. We drove around a lot in the rental car and snorkeled every day at one of the beaches towards Westpunt. Our highlight was Playa Grandi beach. Actually, the beach is not special, but because fishermen throw their waste into the water here, you can swim among dozens of turtles if you are successful! This is also a perfect place to buy fresh fish for the barbecue. There is also plenty to see and do on the way to Westpunt. There are several historic country houses that can be visited along the way. Take a look at the gallery of Nena Sanchez, located in the Jan Kok country house or have lunch at country house Klein Santa Martha and enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace.
