Away from the hustle and bustle towards Westpunt
Klein St. Michiel is a perfect base for visiting all the beautiful, quiet bays towards Westpunt. Less than 5 minutes away at Bullenbaai, you can admire the island's largest flamingo colony. Some beaches offer sunbeds and parasols for a small fee, while others charge an entrance fee plus a charge for a sunbed. There is often also an opportunity to get something to eat and drink. Our favorite drinks on Curaçao are the smoothies; they are made with fresh fruit in the mobile 'snack cars'. They can be found at Grote Knip and Lagun beach, among other places. We drove around a lot in our rental car and snorkeled every day at one of the beaches towards Westpunt. Our highlight was Playa Grandi beach. It isn't particularly special as a beach, but because fishermen throw their trash into the water here, you can swim among dozens of turtles if you're lucky! This is also a perfect spot to buy fresh fish steaks for the barbecue. On the way to Westpunt, there is also plenty to see and do. Along the way, there are several historic country houses that can be visited. Take a look inside Nena Sanchez 's gallery , located in the Jan Kok country house, or have lunch at the Klein Santa Martha country house and enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace. Another country house where you can enjoy a delicious meal is the Daniel country house.
