The Tapanahony River originates in the extreme south of Suriname, near the Border Mountains, on the border with Brazil. The winding river is characterized by enormous waterfalls and large rapids such as the Pulugudu falls and the Gran-olo sula. This sula is so wild that everyone has to get out and take all luggage out of the canoe to drag the boat overland along the sula, a unique experience! The Tapanahony River flows into the Marowijne River at Stoelmanseiland, together with the Lawa River.
The original inhabitants of Suriname live along the upper reaches of the river natives named. These Trio and Wajana Indians live in villages such as Palumeu en Apetina on the bank of the river. In this area you will find a completely untouched jungle with several bare granite rock formations such as the Tebutop. Then Kasikasima Mountains and Roosevelt Peak. During various expeditions, walks are made to these peaks to enjoy the magical view.
