Suriname travel and Surinamese art & craft at one address in Haarlem
We support various Surinamese foundations
Christmas atmosphere on the Spaarnwouderstraat
To brighten up our street, we have given the shop window a Christmas atmosphere with colorful fair trade handmade stars. In addition to these stars, there are countless original, sustainable (Christmas) gifts from Suriname. Such as waterproof bags from the Surinamese brand Capaci, funny t-shirts from Afrotoonz, chocolate from Suriname from Tan Bun Skrati, handmade bags from Floh-Jo and of course many works of art by the children of Matoekoe Foundation. In addition to the original Surinamese products, there are cookery books, photo books, interesting reference works and calendars with Suriname as a theme for sale. Are you unable to come to Haarlem? You can also order via the webshop of Gallery De Kus. If you live in Haarlem and surrounding areas, we will deliver to your home free of charge!

Sales of the products support these foundations, among others:
Matoekoe Foundation
Matoekoe Foundation is located in Lelydorp/Suriname. This is a pedagogical center for children and young adults with intellectual disabilities. This Foundation is largely dependent on donations. By selling the works of art that the children create there, the foundation generates additional income to pay for transport to the city, teaching materials and maintenance.
Go Bana Suriname
'SAY NO TO SINGLE USE PLASTICS'
Go Bana Suriname is committed to a better environment with as little plastic as possible. They do this through a circular project in which bags are made from banana fibers.
Banana fiber is extracted from the remains of banana production and is one of the most sustainable textiles. The bags are made by a group of 18 women in Suriname.
In this way, entrepreneurship is stimulated and employment created.

Snake Patrol Suriname Foundation
The purpose of Snake Patrol Suriname has prevented residents in Suriname from continuing to kill snakes. The average Surinamese is terrified of these animals. Providing education increases knowledge and creates more respect and understanding. In addition, people can contact the foundation to remove animals in a responsible manner if they cause nuisance or fear. The foundation depends on donations and gifts. Beautiful linen bags are for sale at our office. The proceeds go to the foundation.
Green Heritage Fund Suriname Foundation
Organizes activities that help promote and protect Suriname's green image and cultural heritage. The foundation is committed to a number of programs in Suriname:
- Education & research
- Green community development
- Dolphin program
- Xenarthra program (shelter, care and rehabilitation of sloths, anteaters and armadillos)
Suriname Calendar Foundation
De Suriname Calendar Foundation supports projects in the Republic of Suriname in the field of education, welfare and care through the sale of calendars and donations. The projects are mainly aimed at the bottom of society.

Right from my first visit in 2003, Suriname stole my heart. An overwhelming jungle, friendly people and good food: Suriname has it all.
Because I know the country and its people so well, I can tell you exactly where you can find the nicest and most special places and what you can expect from your Suriname trip.
Going on holiday to Suriname with children
My two sons have been traveling since they were little and would prefer to go on holiday to Suriname every year. You have come to the right place for advice and useful tips from my own experience.
17 years later
Since 2010, I took over the company and became the owner. My goal is that with our experience we can contribute to the development of tourism in Suriname in the long term so that this industry is built up in the fairest and most sustainable way possible.
