Day to day program
On the way to Jaw Jaw a The
The adventure truly begins the moment you depart from Paramaribo. You'll travel towards the Upper Suriname River using local transport, accompanied by local residents. This means frequent stops along the way, including grocery shopping for family and friends. Be sure to stock up on drinks and snacks along the way, or, like all your fellow travelers, buy something at the local supermarkets along the way.
Guest at Jaw Jaw a Tela
As a guest at Jaw Jaw, you'll easily connect with everyone in the village. If you walk towards the river, you'll encounter children on their way to school or women doing their laundry and dishes in the river. In the evenings, the small square and communal area at the lodge become a central meeting place where the villagers gather. Music is played, games are played, and drinks are enjoyed.
Activities
A varied program awaits you here, with activities scheduled daily. Think of a boat trip on the river, a walk through the rainforest with a local guide, and a visit to surrounding villages. Of course, a wonderfully relaxing afternoon in a hammock by the water is also an option. Additionally, there is plenty of time during your stay to swim in the rapids located just in front of the village. Go caiman spotting by dugout canoe in the evening and admire the dazzling starry sky. There are regular opportunities to help in the kitchen preparing meals, and there are women who are happy to teach you how they make and embroider pangis. During a longer stay, preparing and baking cassava bread, a calabash workshop, learning to make coconut oil, or pounding rice are also possibilities. Just like fishing, hunting, or learning something of the Saramacca language.
