Het Bastion is the perfect base for exploring the Commewijne district on your own by rental bike or car. You can reach various interesting places such as the Nieuw Amsterdam Open Air Museum, Frederiksdorp , Plantation Katwijk, Mariënburg, and Plantation Peperpot. It is also possible to take a day trip by boat to Plantation Bakkie/Alliance and the Warappakreek .

Besides a swimming pool and the Tamarinde restaurant, the hotel features a café and a spacious pier on the water. The pier is the perfect spot to enjoy the river's beauty with a drink and a snack at sunset. Performances are regularly held in the garden on weekends.
